Job Description

The role of the Mario J. Gabelli School of Business FIT Internship in social media & Events Programming will prepare students to take leadership roles in various marketing organizations.  This position will support the student academically and professionally by developing 鈥渉ard鈥 and 鈥渟oft鈥 transferable skills, including communication skills, interpersonal skills, analytic skills, and organizational skills (learning to balance multiple types of responsibilities with varying degrees of details, keeping track of and prioritizing details, progress, and goals, time management, and working independently).

The student will learn digital marketing skills as well as how to identify and document the associated tasks with each skill and turn those skills into written procedures. They will learn how to implement those procedures and how to analyze the effectiveness of the procedures and presentations. These are important skills in any business-related profession. This experience will enhance their academic progress, as they are able to relate and apply the skills they learn to their academic work as well as apply what they learn in the classroom to this position.

Year 1
Responsibility/Function

  • Learn how to use Canva and Adobe Spark to design slides to post on Social Media.
  • Learn how to create different types of presentations (templates vs. custom-made slides and video clips).
  • Learn how to implement consistency across all platforms (branding) including using consistent colors, consistent fonts and consistent styles.
  • Learn how to implement feedback from the prior year鈥檚 student survey on all platforms.
  • Update the survey and resend it to students at the end of the year.
  • Learn how to create Hawk Link events for GSB speakers and other social and professional events.
  • Learn how to invite guests and record attendance for GSB Hawk Link events.
  • Learn how to manage department social media presence on various social media outlets.
  • Learn how to schedule and prepare social media posts.
  • Learn how to design marketing advertisements for guest speakers, club activities, and other social and professional activities for the GSB community.
  • Learn to market and implement special events such as the freshman ice cream social, the Dean鈥檚 List event, and others as needed.
  • Identify GSB social media opportunities.
  • Learn general office tasks as needed.

Year 2
Responsibility/Function

  • Develop a social media campaign dedicated to GSB clubs, competitions, student accomplishments, alumni, and faculty publications, etc.
  • Learn how to implement animations to RISE Board presentations.
  • Develop a digital newsletter 鈥淭his Week in Gabelli鈥 RISE Board presentation promoting GSB events, club accomplishments, etc., changing every week.
  • Review and update as needed the guidelines and reoccurring tasks to be implemented each semester to ensure consistency in updating the information for student clubs, faculty members, the annual student survey, etc. on the RISE Boards and social media.
  • Review and update as needed procedures to market and implement special GSB events on the RISE boards and GSB social media
  • Review and update the process/procedure for implementing ideas approved by the supervisor for GSB鈥檚 social media pages.
  • Develop awareness campaigns on RISE Boards to contribute to diversity and global awareness.
  • Create and manage Hawk Link events for GSB speakers and other social and professional events.
  • Invite guests and record attendance for GSB Hawk Link events.
  • Plan, create and manage department social media presence on various social media outlets with supervision.
  • Schedule and prepare social media posts.
  • Design marketing advertisements for guest speakers, club activities, and other social and professional activities for the GSB community.
  • Market and implement special events such as the freshman ice cream social, the Dean鈥檚 List event, and others as needed.

Year 3
Responsibility/Function

  • Continue creating and publishing RISE presentations with advancement in graphic design, content idea generation and creation.
  • Finalize the development of a procedure for creating RISE Presentations by utilizing the outline created in Year 2 to create a detailed 鈥渉ow-to鈥 guide for future Marketing Mentors working with RISE Vision.
  • Implement the procedure completed above.
  • Finalize the development for marketing and implementing GSB special events.
  • Begin mentoring potential freshmen interested in applying for the position in their sophomore year.
  • Mentor new office assistants in learning general office tasks.

*Students are prohibited from driving during work-study employment with the limited exception of authorized work-study driver positions.
