Digital Literacy Course Development Intern

Job Description

The ideal candidate for this role would be a student who is currently pursuing a degree in a field related to education, technology, or communications and who has an interest in digital learning, instructional technology, or online education.  Over the three years of progressive experience, the intern will develop intermediate course development skills, experience with e-learning authoring tools, knowledge of accessibility standards and processes for digital learning content, experience presenting and reporting on projects, and basic data analysis and reporting skills.

Year 1: Foundational Learning & Course Maintenance Support
Responsibility/Function

  • Assist with uploading and organizing digital literacy course content within the LMS.
  • Perform routine course maintenance tasks, including updating links and resources.
  • Review course modules for technical issues and report errors to the instructional design team.
  • Support the creation of learner guides, FAQs, and instructional materials.
  • Respond to basic learner support inquiries and escalate technical issues as needed.
  • Participate in LMS, information technology, and instructional design software training sessions.
  • Shadow project team members during course planning and feedback sessions.
  • Document maintenance activities and assist in updating course management logs.

Year 2: Content Development 
Responsibility/Function

  • Develop and edit digital literacy course content under the supervision of Information Technology and Instructional Design staff.
  • Design and upload multimedia resources such as videos, quizzes, and infographics.
  • Assist in testing new or updated courses to ensure functionality and learner accessibility.
  • Manage course enrollment processes and generate usage and completion reports.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to update course materials based on current digital literacy trends.
  • Contribute to the development of learner communication and engagement strategies.
  • Lead periodic content audits to identify outdated or underperforming materials.
  • Assist in the development of a communication plan.

Year 3: Independent Course Development & Strategic Contribution
Responsibility/Function

  • Independently design and manage assigned digital literacy learning modules from concept to deployment.
  • Collaborate directly with SMEs to identify learning objectives and create engaging, accessible course materials.
  • Implement course revisions based on learner feedback and performance data.
  • Lead user testing sessions and analyze feedback to improve course quality.
  • Contribute to the development of digital literacy program strategies and identify emerging learning technologies.
  • Create a communication plan, including draft messages, schedule, and outreach.
  • Mentor new interns or junior team members in digital literacy maintenance and course development best practices.
  • Present project updates, course performance insights, and recommendations to IT and ID teams as a culminating review of their 3-year internship experience.
